Get-A-Head 200 Mile Challenge

Posted by Anne-Marie on June 10, 2013

The Story: Simply put, Dave Brown committed to raising £500 for Get-a-head at the annual ball in November.  The easy thing to do would be to send a cheque for £500 to the charity…but …never one to miss an opportunity to get his friends to put their hands in their pockets (to raise more money), or to do something slightly silly, Dave put out a challenge…..thankfully a few accepted.

The challenge: Cycle 200 miles in one day…taking in the midlands key rugby playing towns of Worcester, Bromsgrove, Leamington Spa, Warwick, Rugby, Market Harborough (sorry Leicester), Northampton and Daventry on June 15th this year.  We are expecting to finish in the Cotswold Village of Ilmington where we hope to celebrate with a few well earned local beers….if our bodies hang in there…

Now, 4 of us have ridden 135 miles in one day, and none of us know anyone who has ridden 200 in one day, so this is not challenge to be taken lightly….Len already has a nutrional spreadsheet to put the Department for Health to shame…and as we all have 40 plus years on the clock we are not expecting to get everyone over the line (but the amount of kit being purchased to aid our aching limbs is impressive…)

Who: Warwickshire Middle Aged Men looking for a challenge; currently comprising:Mark Nicholas, Richard Skan, Richard PJ, David Larner, Chris Bamford, David Morris, Dave Brown, Mark Woodland, Steve Smith.

Other lunatics welcome….you know you want to.

Others doing a shorter but no less impressive 100 mile trip are Kaz, John Stone, Len Islef, Al Hartin, Guy Stanton.. if others are interested please mail

Entry for the 200 mile club is £100, anyone wanting to do the 100 mile route will need a “minimum” of £50 but clearly we’re expecting more.

Thanks from Get A-Head to the Team and Good Luck on Saturday!
