Get A-Head Research
Research Projects supported by Get A-Head
Unless we can understand how a disease works at the most basic level, it is difficult to develop new treatments. Sometimes these developments take a long time and are expensive to set up. Get A-Head is at the forefront in supporting research and finding cures into head & neck cancer and other diseases. We currently provide funding to several research projects which we hope, will one dayenable us to understand and fight back against the diseases we face.
The Get A-Head Charity currently funds a project within the School of Clinical and Experimental Medicine at the University of Birmingham, in the research group of Dr Chris McCabe researching Medullary Thyroid Cancer. For more information please click here
We also fund a project within the Institute of Cancer Research at The Royal Marsden Hospital by Professor Kevin Harrington researching the genome of Salivary Gland Cancers but particularly Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. For more information on our ACC Research project click here
Get A-Head is also pleased to be working with Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charity and the University of Birmingham to bring patients new drugs in as little as 18 months. Professor Hisham Mehanna is leading the research team at the Institute of Head and Neck Studies and Education and said: “Everyday drugs could help fight cancer – we just need to test them out, which is why we need your support.
