Grants Awarded 2014

The Trustees are pleased to have approved the following Grants this year:

A Grant for the Speech and Language Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham to purchase two mini iPads and specialist speech software that will allow patients to keep communicating using synthesised speech at times when theirs has become difficult to understand.

A Grant request for funding for two Doctors from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham to allow them to attend the annual British Association of Endocrine & Thyroid Surgeons conference in Rome to present findings from work undertaken at the hospital.

A Grant was approved for Birmingham Children’s Hospital to assist with purchasing a Surgical Navigation Unit, which is an advanced computer-assisted and image-guided navigational system that allows surgeons to precicisely position surgical instrucments during head and neck surgery.  This will allow the hospital to develop it’s pioneering endoscopic surgery and provide children with the best possible care.

A Grant has been approved for the Multidisciplinary Allergy Clinic at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham to purchase a NIOX MINO analyser that will assist in diagnosing allergies and allow for instant decisions of the management of the conditions.

Several Grants have been awarded to Allied Health Professionals to attend specialist Head & Neck and Thyroid Study Days to ensure our medical staff have the best and most up to date knowledge available to them when treating their patients.

A 3-year Grant has been approved to continue funding the Complementary Therapy Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham which allows access to complementary therapies for patients undergoing treatment for head & neck or oral/maxillofacial cancer.
