50 Riders!  180 Miles!  2 Days!  One Goal!!

Cycle Miles4Mel – 16th & 17th May

A team of staff from Unilever in Leatherhead are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Get A-Head in memory of one of their colleagues.

Richard Marriott of Unilever says : “Last August, Mel Jaggard, a colleague in our Customer Development team, sadly passed away. Mel was a much loved member of our Unilever community and her battle with cancer was an inspiration to all who knew her.  Last October, 180 men and women from Unilever, Leatherhead jumped on static bikes in our head office atrium and cycled a combined 2000 miles, raising £6k for Get A Head.  This whetted the appetite for a much bigger challenge…

On Friday 16th May, 50 colleagues from Unilever will be cycling over two days, from the Leatherhead HQ to Mel’s home town of Gilwern in South Wales. That’s 180 miles of long, winding and hilly road. The aim of the challenge is to raise as much money as possible for Get A Head – a charitable trust dedicated to fighting head and neck cancer. The target is to raise £50k and the money raised will help fund a project at the new Molecular Research Centre at The Royal Marsden to understand the genetic pathways of ACC to enable them to find targets and blockers for it. The project will require funding for the next four years.  A fitting way to keep Mel’s memory alive.”
