Skydiving for Get A-Head
Posted by Anne-Marie on June 8, 2015
Saturday 6th June saw a group of seven daredevil supporters take to the skies, skydiving 13,000 feet from an aeroplane to raise money for Get A-Head.
The exhilarating event took place at Hinton airfield in Brackley and the team undertook a tandem skydive, where each diver was accompanied by a professional.
Following on from previous skydives where we joined QEHB Charity, this year we decided to hold our own day and by the looks of the success this will become an annual event in the Get A-Head calendar.
The volunteers were sponsored and each participator was able to choose which particular fund they’d like the money they raised to be added to, giving them an extra incentive as they knew exactly who and what they were jumping for. Between them our skydiving daredevils, Jayne Orme, Katherine Carter, Helen Lillis, Laura Crawley, Carl Jeffs, Karen Payne and Andy Edwards raised over £5,700 with more sponsorship still coming in.
Karen Payne and her partner Andy Edwards both took part in the Skydive and afterwards Karen said: “Skydiving was the most exhilarating experience of my life!! A mixture of fear and excitement, but well worth it!!”
“Thank you to Get-A-Head Charity for letting us take part in this fantastic day – I will ever forget this experience!”
Charity Administrator, Anne-Marie Patrick, said: “The day was a huge success, raising an impressive £5,700 to continue supporting patients and their families suffering from head and neck diseases, including cancer, through the funding of research, education and the purchase of vital equipment.
“Everyone who took part had a great time and several have said they’d like to join us again next year! If you’d like to do a skydive to raise funds for Get A-Head please get in touch!”
Skydiver Katherine Carter, pictured, commented: “Get A -Head skydiving is utterly fabulous. Where else can you spend a Saturday jumping out of a perfectly serviceable plane, fly like a bird and then float to the ground with the biggest grin on your face itching to do it all over again.
Not only that, you know you’ve raised money for such a great cause too. It’s a win for everyone. Sign up you’ll never regret it”.
Due to popular demand we will be organising another skydive for next year. Please call Anne-Marie Patrick on 0121 371 5046 for details of this and other fundraising opportunities.
