Saturday 29th November was a very special evening in the Get A-Head calendar, it was time for our Grand Ball, that saw us celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the charity.

Here’s a short video of the event for you to relive the evening!

Ball 2014 RoomAround 600 guests arrived for the Grand Ball looking glamorous and handsome in their evening dress and were welcomed to the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, with a drinks reception supplied by Purity Brewing Co and Paul Roberts Wines Ltd , and hosted by Paul Hales of The Lovely Pub company.  After welcome drinks, guests were shown through to the spectacular Monarch Suite, dressed in all its glory, oozing class dressed in black and gold with gorgeous LED Candelabras to set off each table, supplied by TableArt of Leamington Spa and a stage set, lighting and production worthy of any high profile event! superbly organised and managed by Lemon Zest Events of Coleshill.

Gary PriestlyWe were welcomed in to the room by a set from Gary Priestly & The Prime Time Orchestra, a wonderfully entertaining swing band, who then played for us during dinner, they truly were outstanding, and even had guests dancing between courses!  Grace was said by Lord Digby Jones before dinner.  The evening was jam packed full of entertainment, and was expertly compared by the wonderful Mike Osman, who always champions the charity and really brings a sense of fun to the event!

Tom Bromwich, Chairman of Get A-Head, thanked all who had attended and all those that played a part in the evening during his speech, he informed guests that Get A-Head are going from strength to strength and are in good form! He went on to say Get A-Head have had a fantastic 20th anniversary year and will continue to strive to achieve our goal of helping patients and their families suffering with head and neck disease and head and neck cancers.  Tom then made a presentation to John Watkinson in recognition of his 20 years with Get A-Head.

After dinner we had a lovely and funny speech from Dr Hilary Jones, who introduced John Watkinson, he paid tribute to all of the Get A-Head supporters who have helped the charity achieve success in supporting patients and their families who are suffering from head and neck diseases.

Three short films were shown to the guests during the evening about the charity and featuring some of our patients who have benefited from the work we are involved in. It was an emotional moment when one of the patients featured in one of the films stood up to show he was there, the whole room stood and applauded his courage!
