Monitise Charity Cycle Challenge

On Thursday 3rd July, thirty Monitise employees and six of their colleagues from their Partner Company’s began their epic Charity Cycle Challenge.  Setting off from Millennium Stadium, in Cardiff, their aim was to cycle to Twickenham Rugby Football Stadium in 2 days – a total of 169 miles.

Monitise Cycle 1

At 9.00am on Thursday the 36 riders set off, their target was to cycle for a couple of hours before stopping for the first well-earned rest-stop at Caldicott.  They crossed the Severn Bridge before lunch and started the English leg of the cycle challenge, stopping in Swindon, having completed a total of 78 miles, for a Sports Massage, kindly provided by their partner company Pure Sports Medicine, before getting a good night’s rest so they would be refreshed for day 2 and the challenge of another 91 miles on their bikes.

Day 2 started a 9.00am with everybody raring to go and wanting to complete the final 90 miles and reach Twickenham.  The team cycled hard all day and finally crossing the finish line at Twickenham around 4.00pm on Friday afternoon.

However, the team weren’t finished with the cycling – they had been invited to a celebratory BBQ at Harlequins Rugby Ground – it was just under a mile but probably the hardest mile of the lot!!

Special thanks from the team must go to Across the Divide, the event management company  who organised the event and provided medics, mechanics (who we kept busy with broken chains) and most importantly undertook the route planning to ensure they didn’t get lost.

To date the team have raised over £20,000 and donations are still being made, if you  would like to sponsor them visit their Virgin Money Giving page
