If you’re looking to give something back in 2025, why not consider raising money for the Get A-Head Charitable Trust and help us to support people living with the trauma of head and neck conditions, especially cancer.
We raised £270,000 in 2024 to support research, equipment, training and therapy – and we would love to raise even more this year.
Maybe you are looking to set yourself a challenge, like running a marathon or taking an ice-cold sea swim, or maybe you can turn your baking or craft skills into items for a bake sale or stall?
Get A-Head chairman Tom Bromwich said: “We are very grateful to all of our amazing volunteers and fundraisers, who really are the lifeblood of Get A-Head.
“We rely on fundraising events and donations to help us continue our vital work, which includes providing life-changing equipment, paying for training and education for healthcare professionals, funding cutting-edge research and providing complementary therapies to soften the effects of treatment.
“Last year two people ran the London Marathon in aid of Get A-Head, my nephew Harry took on the Oxford half marathon and the intrepid Brightsides team even rowed across the Atlantic – but fundraisers don’t need to go to those extremes to make a valuable contribution!
“Hosting a coffee morning or organising a sponsored walk or quiz night are just some of the ideas you could try. We can provide everything you need, such as branded T-shirts, collection tins and posters, you just need to provide the people power.”
Funds raised by Get A-Head make a real difference to the lives of people living with head and neck conditions, which can leave very visible and distressing after-effects such as facial disfigurement and loss of speech.
The support and practical help offered by Get A-Head makes a real difference to patients like Mark Allen, who had to have half his face removed due to an aggressive stage four tumour in his nose, followed by gruelling radiotherapy and reconstructive surgery.
Danni Heath, director of Get A-Head, said: “The number of head and neck cancer cases in the UK are increasing by three per cent a year and unfortunately most cases are diagnosed at either stage three or four, making treatment lengthier and more invasive.
“Life for these patients is tough, but it is Get A-Head’s mission to help make treatment and recovery just that little bit easier. Any money that our supporters can raise will go to help even more people at this awful time in their lives.”
