Get A-Head reacts to ‘National Cancer Plan’ announcement

Today, as part of World Cancer Day, the Government has announced a major AI trial to tackle breast cancer and a ‘Call for Evidence’ to help shape a new National Cancer Plan.

Commenting on the news, Danni Heath, director of Get A-Head, said: “We are really encouraged to see this major AI trial launching for breast cancer detection in the NHS – and even more important that it’s part of developing a new national cancer plan.

“Early diagnosis is vital for all cancers, and while this AI trial focuses on breast screening, we need to see similar innovations in head and neck cancer detection. With survival rates and waiting times varying so much across different cancer types, this call for evidence is a crucial chance to push for improvements across all cancers.

“We’ll be working closely with partner charities to respond, making sure the specific challenges and needs of head and neck cancer patients are front and centre in the national conversation. From diagnosis to treatment pathways, we need to see real progress for our community.

This is a chance to shape the future of cancer care and we’ll be making sure head and neck cancer patients’ voices are heard loud and clear!”

Get A-Head has today also welcomed action by supporters of the #CatchUpWithCancer campaign.

Radiotherapy UK and its supporters are fighting for more investment to improve cancer treatment waiting times.
