Specialist health charity Get A-Head has strengthened its support for head and neck cancer professionals by funding 10 places at a key conference.
The British Association of Head and Neck Oncology Nurses (BAHNON) will hold its conference in Birmingham later this month (June), when Get A-Head will also provide the £100 first prize for a draw, support the prizes in the conference poster competition and help with the accommodation costs for some delegates.
Danni Heath, Get A-Head director and a director of the Head and Neck Cancer Coalition CIC, said: “One of Get A-Head’s primary aims is to support the continuing education of healthcare professionals, so the BAHNON conference is a great event for us to get involved in.
“Events like this are essential for helping healthcare professionals share information and experiences and catch up on the latest successes and challenges in their field. I’m delighted that we have been able to fund 10 places at the event to make it even more accessible to nurses working with head and neck cancer patients.”
BAHNON aims to improve patient care by influencing national policies and practices while providing a space for specialist oncology nurses to share knowledge and ideas.
Danni Added: “Professional conferences like BAHNON can be invaluable, but the cost of attending can be prohibitive. It’s great that Get A-Head has been able to provide free places for 10 nurses to attend, and I hope they find it beneficial when they return to their patients.
“As part of the Head and Neck Cancer Coalition, we will also be publishing our detailed response to the government’s cancer strategy consultation. We have been closely involved with head and neck cancer care and research for 30 years now, and I’m delighted that we have been able to have an input into the way cancer services are structured going forward.
“I hope the government looks carefully at what we have to say and takes action to improve the lives of people living with the consequences of these often devastating diseases.”
Claire Barber, president of the British Association of Head and Neck Oncology Nurses (BAHNON), said: “We are very grateful to Get A-Head for their generous support, which will enable more oncology nurses to benefit from attending the conference.
“By making these funded places available, Get A-Head is helping to break down barriers to professional development so that more nurses can learn from each other and bring new knowledge back to their patients. This support really does make a difference to both our members and the people they care for.”
Get A-Head, which was founded in Birmingham, funds vital research into the causes and treatments of head and neck conditions, especially cancer, provides life-changing equipment not available through the NHS, supports the continuing education of healthcare professionals and funds support for patients going through treatment.
